Endowment help

COULD ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME

I have an endowment policy that matures in Oct 2011 with Legal and General.I no longer need the policy to pay off the mortgage but now need it to help with a pension since my divorce.
The policy was initially for £27,850 , £19,300 istodays value but current surrender value is £24,000.
In the light of todays finacial situation would I be better to leave it to run its course or surrender it and invest it elswhere and could anyone suggest where to invest .I did contact L and G but they would only say they cant predict but there has never been a situation where there hasnt been a final bonus.
I would be very grateful for advice.
