unhappy play.com customer

hi,
i'm really unhappy with the service i have received from play.com.
I ordered a camera for my daughters birthday on the 14th sept, on the 16th my account stated the camera had been dispatched, which i was very happy with.
My daughter was disappointed when her birthday came and went earlier this week and the camera had not arrived.
As her boyfriend is taking her away this w/e to celebrate her birthday, i phoned up this morning to see if the camera would arrive in time for her to take with her.
I was furious to be told play.com no longer sell the camera i ordered:mad:
When i asked why payment had been taken for the camera and it showed in my account as 'dispatched' - i was told i must have been one of the last customers to order this camera and it had gone through electronically???
When i asked why they had not phoned to inform me it was no longer sold, i was told they would not have been aware i had not received the camera if i had not phoned them.
To top it all, i don't have the spare cash to buy elsewhere until i get a refund, and to get this i have to print out an email they have sent me, sign it, and post it back to them. Daughter is going to be very disappointed when she comes home from work

Perhaps it was sent and is just slow and may arrive after you have sent for a refund. I would have asked don't they only mark things dispatched when they actually have been dispatched? To do otherwise is asking for trouble.
I would say that you don't *have* to fill out this form and return it, but if you do you should ask them to cover the postage costs. Your word by telephone or by email is good enough for them to legally have to issue a refund for unrecieved goods..0
