There's nothing to stop you applying with someone other than your partner. I bought a house which my son lives in but it can leave you with capital gains tax problems as it won't be your parents main residence.

Please think carefully if you really want to do this. My son has moved out and I'm not left with a mortgage I could really do without having to pay!
  • What a rollercoaster and exciting life you lead!

On the 30th July you were worried about £15k the CSA were chasing you for. :(

5 Days later you're off on your hols and wondering about travellers cheques :)

1 day later you traded in your car and had to pay it all back to leasing company :(

9 days later you're struggling to find a council house :(

Today all your problems have gone and you're buying a house :)

    Amazing!

You still haven't confirmed whether or not you have money for a deposit

If not, there is no point even thinking about buying a house.
    :p
  • I'd imagine it would be better to see where you stand with the CSA before you start worrying about buying a house. Even if they half the amount you owe you still need to find 7k and that ant going to be easy.

  • nothing is easy with them... not to what i have been reading on this site. am not going to wait another 5yrs for them to get in touch.

deposit, i have a couple off pennys saved, but stewart milne homes is othering to pay 20% (only for 10yrs then pay it back) mortgage.... but still cant get 17000 mortgage.
  • You could always get in touch with the CSA yourself and sort the thing out sooner rather than later. Once you know how much arrears you will have to pay and how much on-going maintenance you will be paying, you'll have a better understanding of your outgoings and will be able to budget accordingly.

I'd imagine that your deposit, if any, will be soaked up by the CSA arrears. Perhaps this won't be such a bad thing, you'll have cleared this debt and will be able to start afresh in a couple of years when house prices are much lower.
