Hi Everyone,

Your assistance is required again.

Unfortunately my car is stuffed and I need a new one. I'm goign to use this opportunity to get a car in a lower tax band. Does anyone hav any ideas? Are there any lists out there of models in the lower tax bands for eg.

Also, it needs to be a bit more reliable than the last one, so I'm thinking Toyota, Honda, Volkswagen etc.

Thanks Everyone.

Well, I've found Citroen C1, Toyota Aygo and Pug 107 all at £35 and the Fiesta 1.4 TDCI.

None of them very inspiring though.

  • remember not to base your selection just on the tax band

Can you expand that please? I'm looking for something more reliable than my current car but thought I'd use the opportunity to lower the tax too.

Because their higher purchase price usually negates several years of savings on VED.

The VW BlueMotion range is tax exempt as emmisions are so low :)

But it's far from the cheapest car to own over time despite this, as Conor is suggesting, other cars with a modest tax charge do work out cheaper.

If you want cheap a 7 year old Nissan Micra 1.0 for £500 to £1000, 47mpg, a hundred and something for tax but who cares when you loose little in depreciation and other expenses.
If your going for new / nearly new look for the equivalent to the VW Polo BlueMotion in the Skoda range "GreenLine". Slightly heavier car so more CO2 at 104g/km which pushes it to a £35 tac disk, but cheaper to buy, cheaper all round.

I have a 9 year old Toyota corolla and it cost me £125.00 for a year
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?
