Problems with Hyperlink in e mail

Options
Hi All

I use Outlook as my e-mail and am inserting a hyperlink for a web address in an e mail that I send to a group on a regular basis. I insert the hyperlink by highlighting the text in the mail that I wish to use to create the hyperlink e.g HERE and then going to insert hyperlink and putting the website URL e.g http://websiteaddress in the appropriate field.

When the mail is sent the link is shown as blocked::http://websiteaddress and many are unable to access the website although I can if I send the message to myself.

Help please. Any ideas?

I have tried this using my PC at work and it doesn't add the 'blocked' part to the hyperlink blocked::http://websiteaddress So, I guess my home PC is adding blocked to the hyperlink somehow, possibly the firewall? Any suggestions on where to look for a solution?

    Hi Hotspur,

Are you pasting the whole URL in completely, or are you using the formatting with lets you hide the actual URL behind something more readable like 'Click Here for Information'? Some e-mail providers (particularly web based e-mail) have started blocking this kind of hyperlink as an anti-phishing measure - I know this because we have had some problems at work with system generated e-mails.

The best solution is simply to include the whole URL in full in the e-mail - it doesn't look as pretty, but if this is the problem then it should hopefully fix it as it won't seem like you are trying to 'hide' something.

    Hope that helps,

    Thanks for the response Jesthar.

I'm using the 'Click Here for Information' with the URL hidden option as the URL is particularly long and, as you say, doesn't look pretty on the page. The e mail account I am using is with Yahoo but I use Outlook 2003 to send/receive messages.

    Hi Hotspur,

If the URL you are sending is falling prey to anti-phishing measures, then the e-mail address and software YOU are using to send the e-mail doesn't really matter. It is the RECEIVING e-mail account(s) which will be blocking the URL, as they regard a hidden link as suspicious, so your only real solution is to put the full URL in the e-mail, unfortunately.
