help applying for shell citibank credit card

so heres my problem,
Having graduated this summer and subsequently starting work I have moved house and with not being paid until the end of my month have hit my student graduate account overdraft hard (for the first time ever!) Being fully self sufficient now and spending regulalry on food and petrol i figured id be best off getting the shell citibank credit card and using that instead of my debit card (paying it off in full each month) however i am concerned I will be declined, and if that happens do i apply for say the egg money card and risk damaging my credit file with two rejections in a short space of time.
I was wondering which bank account i should state in my application, my student account £1800od or my personal saving account (very comfortably in the green!), and secondly will having been in my new place for a month likely effect my application (previous reseidence was at home for 22years)
other factors - currently earning £23k
many thanks
joe

  • If you get rejected by citi I wouldnt apply for the egg card as they are now owned by citi as well, it wont help with you moving in the last month, you probably wont be on the electral roll that quick
  • thanks guys, i can easliy wipe out my OD debt by transferring if that will help - however with credit companies looking to make money might i not be better suited if my accounts werent the best looking? I am posting my electoral role address change back today, so i could wait for that to go through depending on how long it takes, I also forgot to add that between where i am now and being at home i was in manchester for university for 4 years where i registered to vote. is it possible to be registered in 2 places, i.e my university address and my home address, and if so should i just use my home address on the application?
    thanks again

ICBW, but I'm fairly certain the bank account they're asking for is your current account. (And if you have more than one, specify the one you've had the longest.)

They're after stability factors with that question. They can get behavioural factors from your credit report (assuming the bank is listed there) regardless of whether you put it down or not.

At this time of year (during the annual audit), your updated information won't be sent to the CRA's until after 1st December.

looks like waiting a fwe weeks wont effect things then, not much else i can do other than to just bite the bullet and try it with my current details i guess

I've answered some of these questions for you on the credit rating thread. If this would be your first credit card, you'd be wasting your time, IMO, applying to Citi at the mo.

For tips to improve your chances of credit card acceptance, have a look at the *Credit Rating: how it works and how to improve it guide*, especially Martin's *Manage and Improve your credit score* article, which gave rise to that thread ;)

  • cheers, i wasnt to sure where was best to post :o I have had a credit card with my student account, so for the last 4 years, used it very infrequently and always paid it off on time. I think im leaning towards just applying with my home/parents address then now, then can always send the documents over to me, and i can then notify the company of a change of details too

    Great. That'll certainly help.

You'll find it easier to get the cards and credit limits you want, once you've operated this and at least one other card for a bit.

    Sounds like a plan ;)
