New kitchens comparison - opinions please

Hi there,
I'm about to move into my new house, and need a new kitchen asap!

I've seen units I like at the following stores:

Focus
B&Q
Homebase
Howens
MFI
Wickes
Ikea

I'd be interested to hear peoples' opinions on the above's value for money, price generally, quality, longevity, customer service, ease of fitting etc.

Thanks

BB

I recently had the same question and a bit of time looking through this forum provided plenty of useful information.

Last kitchen I installed was from ......MFI
Only had one small problem, ( damaged infil corner piece)
No problem , they sent one by courier within 48 hours.

    I would use them again.

There will now be a flood of angry mfi customers with their tales.
but can only post my experiences.

Can see the advantage of places like BQ . go there pick the stuff, when you need it .
    off the shelf.

    black gloss kitchen

Hi, Mr Phirefly's keen on going with black gloss, I like it but I'm hesitant as while we're going to be here for the short-to-mid term, I'm doing up the house partially with a view to it being universally appealing for when we eventually come to sell. I'm concerned that black gloss might be offputting for some as its such a statement, what made you (and any others) choose that option?

Perhaps find a recommendation for an installer that can install a Howdens kitchen, also visit John Lewis for ideas.

From your list, go for Wickes but make sure you get the stuff that's guaranteed for 5 years or more. The other stuff isn't great.

Why don't you put a poll on this? It will be difficult to see how many people recommend each supplier as there are varied experiences on all of them, I suppose. My friends just got an IKEA kitchen and it looks fantastic. Other than that I don't know anyone else with the experience of changing kitchen.

Thanks very much for all the opinions. I'm getting the Howden's man round on Friday, then I'll take my quote round to other places and see how they compare price-wise.

Decided not to go with Ikea or Focus as they're both too far away from my house, in the event that there are bits missing, etc.

Also went to Trade Depot at the weekend, was very impressed with the quality of their kitchens on show - plus they SAY they'll beat any quote.....
