car insurance -cancelling mid term
Hi everyone, I'm looking for some advice...
I really want to run my old banger til its mot runs out in january, but my insurance is up for renewal soon. On average, do providers charge a lot for cancelling insurance before 12 months is up? Because I'd like to re-insure til january but if I stand to lose much I will start looking for a new car right now
thanks

The charges are usually fully detailed in the terms and conditions which you should read before purchasing a policy.0

I would ask your current insurer what they would charge to change your policy midterm to another car.
I've just done this and it cost £9 less as they considered current car is cheaper to insure (even though it's newer) but with a £10 admin fee that meant I owed them £1, which they waived.
Some companies charge quite hefty admin fees, so it might pay you to do a bit of shopping around at this stage.0 -
Also remember that it is possible to suspend a policy until you get another car although there's a limit to how long they'll do this and it means it is suspended so you can't drive someone elses car on it if you have that currently.0
