Normally I would save 500-600 for just me and the missus, but this year is a special one and I have had some significant payrises this year, So will be 4K, but that does include a weeks holiday in Lapland, and a pricey watch for the missus.
  • I don't put money aside as such but DH takes a bonus at Christmas so we use that. I also start buying food/pressies from September onwards.

I too have to be v.organised because my kids have b-days from 6th Nov - 2 Jan! I also have nieces & nephews with b-days between Oct - Dec!

All in all I expect Xmas to cost us between £1000 - £1500. But we love it!

About £1500 - £500 per month Oct - Dec. That includes a xmas holiday to center parcs.

  • I buy most of my pressies in january in the sales and get them normally 75% cheaper...so a £20 decent gift is only £5...and so forth.

I also look on Hotdeals daily and if any excellent deals, then I grab and put away in pressy box. I worked out last year that I had spent £320 for the whole year for everyone.

Christmas is something I've never been very good at preparing for....

It's all last minute for me, I do some panic buying in November and become quite delirious in December - amazon is really useful for people like me :o

I've got quite a small family really and only one child so it's not too expensive

I don't buy all the gimicky boxes of biscuits and nuts and all that rubbish, my Christmas 'shop' is a normal 'shop' with a big chicken, stuffing and extra booze !
  • I don't specifically save towards Christmas as it doesn't usually cost any more than any other time.

My son's and husband's presents come out of the general fund (just cut down on something else that month) and I don't buy for anyone else. If it's something bigger the money will come from our gebneral savings.

I don't buy special Christmas food other than we may have a beef joint instead of chicken.

Yes - I know I'm a cheapskate but I honestly don't see why it has to cost a whole lot more. Even if you have three kids it needn't cost more than £200 in presents.

In Jan I start collecting Tesco's savings stamps, can sometimes have 2 cards filled for Dec so I have £100 for Christmas dinner shop. (includes for last min pressies etc)

I save the Child benefit money every month towards christmas. Had to use it for decorating earlier this year, but haven't used it since July. For presents I aim for £200 per child (3 of) but usually end up going over.

    Family presents:
    OH/me: £100
£30 per parent = £120 (had to cut back from £50 each)
    Other people: neices/nephews Aunties/Uncles/GrandparentsFriends/friends kids/teachers etc - £2-300

So that ends up just over 1k, with various bits and pieces on top - decorations, cards, work night out, new outfit etc etc. so maybe closer to £1300 or so in the end.
