The halifax, b'ham midshires, intelligent finance and the AA are all part of HBOS so having combined accounts with these would just get £35,000 cover.0

Hi I'm new to this web site I hope i'm in the right place. i'm looking for some help /advice regarding Birmingham Midshires (part of HBOS) fixed rate bonds I have 2 accounts both have considerable savings in them well over any protected limits. I am locked into the two terms and cant withdraw the money not even with a loss of interest. My question is just how safe are my savings. in these fixed term bonds where i have no control over my hard earned savings should i be worried or can i sleep easy in these troubled times
Apologies if i have asked my question in the wrong place
Thanks

Lots of people have been asking the same sort of questions, dti-daveB
Briefly:
1) If you can't move the money then best not to worry about it.
2) The protected limits will be rising to £50,000 soon
3) The government seems determined to rescue every bank. So far no savers have lost a penny.0 -
Welcome to MSE.com. Yes, you're in the right place, but it's probably best (a) to look through the last few days' threads to check whether your question has been asked before, and (b) to start a new thread if your question isn't closely related to the current one. (This one was specifically asking about the AA's relationship to HBoS).Hi I'm new to this web site I hope i'm in the right place."The trouble with quotations on the Internet is that you never know whether they are genuine" - Charles Dickens0 -
are you sure that fixed rate, fixed term bonds are protected under the £50000 scheme0
