Hi there
Firstly, apologies if this is a simple question but i thought id ask anyway.
Im about to install and use iTunes. I've only got a small hard drive on my laptop and its already pretty full.
Will iTunes work ok if I put all my music on an external hard drive and connect that when I want to use iTunes?
Also, would iTunes need to go o nthe ext drive, or would it be ok on c: drive?
thanks in advance

You will be able to put the music on the hard drive, as you can add music from any destination (I had some on my USB stick for uni and it still worked then).
Itunes would be fine on C drive."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

It'll work fine if you set it up correctly. Install iTunes on C: as normal. Don't let it go and find MP3s during setup, and don't go to the store. Go into preferences once it's installed, and somwhere in there it will show you the location of the Library (ie all of iTunes' music), which defaults to something similar to C:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library. Redirect this to what ever folder you like on the ext drive. Also in the preferences, find the option under importing for 'Copy music to iTunes Library when importing' or similar, and turn that on. This is a good time to set the quality and file format of what you import. I think it defaults to 128k or 160k AAC, which is too low for me personally...
Once you've done all that, you can start ripping CDs in iTunes and using Add File or Add Folder to Library, under File in iTunes to add the music you already have to it. I think it's very important, however, that you don't run iTunes while the ext drive isn't connected. It won't find it's Library, and will create a new one again. Good luck!0 -
