hey,
after having my cltohes washed in the washing machine, hung dry and then tumble dried. i find that some of my clothes have that horrible damp smell especially my jeans, and on my t-shirts i get small holes around the stomach area of the t-shirt.
anyone know what is causing this?
i think it is the washing machine

Could be, have you cleaned the machine?
You can do a maintenance wash or use a product like Affresh to do it.
The washing machine can't make things smell as such, there's nothing in there that will cause an odour, but if it's not looked after the build up of bacteria in it most certainly can.

i get the same problem regarding the holes in tops, usually my daughters' thin cotton/ cotton jersey type. If the holes were appearing all over the item then i would suspect the machine but they just appear at the front waist area. Im sure my machine isnt clever enough to damage all the items in the same place. Come to the conclusion that it might be damage from the chunky belts that they insist on wearing or poss catching in the jean zip.0

A quick warning on using a boil wash setting. I never use this, as a rule, but thought it a good idea to clean the machine, so set it to 90 for a cycle. Unfortunately, the plastic pipe and connections used for the drainage didn't like the extra heat, and fell apart at one of the joins. I ended up with a flooded floor. Luckily, my washing machine is in my garage, so the damage caused wasn't too bad. I won't be rushing to do it again though!Debbie0

Do you do the zips up on all clothes before washing/drying them? This stops the zip teeth causing holes ... I saw this tip on here years ago and no longer have this problem!0

The holes are strange - I always get a small hole in my t-shirts just near my stomach. Someone told me that it could be that when I'm driving the car the my t-shirt might be getting caught between my seat-belt and belt buckle - I reckon they could be right too.
As for the smell, are you leaving the clothes in the washing machine for a long time after its finished - its normally best to take them out quickly.0 -
Any bacteria will be killed and the fairy will get any surfaces shiny and clean again?
I wouldn't, the suds can block pressure hoses and cause what we call a suds lock.

thanx for the replies guys and gals, have given the washing machine a 90c wash with vinegar but no luck, will buy some of that affresh stuff.
dont wear chunky belts so dont think it would be that, could well be the zips on jeans, shall make sure they are all zipped up in future.
hopefully these will solve my problems, thanx again for the replies.0
