  • Why do you think the benefits office check for other bank accounts ? They would only do that if they suspect the claimant to be telling porkies I dont think its something they do routinely

As for the person with all the money and claiming, he was showing his bank statement to his cronies in the pub and its actually more than that.

If he's that casual about cheating the system then he's not going to know who shopped him! Do it straight away - people like him are stealing from the taxpayer.
  • You will qualify because of your income not your savings. Tax Credits are not interested in your savings, only the interest gained.

The NHS Low Income Scheme is for those who dont automatically qualify through other avenues such as Tax Credits.

Tax Credits is a mean-tested benefit.

But must be different criteria to say, housing benefit etc? Is it that tax credits is assessed on income rather than capital, whereas all the other benefits take into account capital as well?

he has now got to buy a car to get him to work and will now below the 16k.

As long as whatever he spends from his £16K+ is seen as reasonable then the JCP won't consider he's depriving himself of capital so when he's not got any mork work he can reclaim.

All bank accounts are registered with Inland Revenue for tax payments, Inland Revenue share data with other Govt Depts, all done via a big shiny computer that can analyse thousands and thousands of cases and churn out reports of anomalies.

As for the OPs bro, he can use the capital to live off, he'd be entitled to use £60 per week minimum as that's what he would have got on JSA, more realistically he could spend £100 per week, plus any rent or mortgage and council tax on top. Once he's below £16k he'd lose about £40 per week due to having savings over £6k, so he can top his income up by £40 per week from his savings. Every time his savings drop down by £250 he should report it and they'll reduce the amount knocked off by £1 a week.
  • Just thought you'd like to know I passed all the info on anonymously. My brother just hopes him or his mates don't connect him with it. Straight to the point he is not really the sort of person to cross. As for the big shiny puter. Hes been at it for years. Maybe it needs the memory upgrading. If all these accts are registered with the revenue and share info, then all I can say is they are doing a pretty rubbish job!!
