Can anyone recommend where to invest £10K for and 11y and 8yr old child until they are 18? Somewhere guarenteed not to drop but will give a good return /growth over the next 8-10 years.

I don't think ANY investments are "guaranteed not to drop" – if they did exist why would anyone take any risks?!
If you don't want to risk anything, you'd be better off saving the money rather than investing it. It is worth noting that the return on savings would be far less than on an investment that performed well, but there'd be no risk. (Or considering today's climate, make that virtually no risk!).
