Thank you but I'd much prefer "tomstickland" to show me, as he has assumed so much about me. Hopefully he can do it without reference to the internet.
Somehow I doubt he can as he cannot grasp the obvious advantage to the energy companies of selling energy to as many decimal places as possible.
Still....0 -
But as someone has correctly pointed out, using prices to 3 d.p. brings in an extra £10.8 million.

I think that we have now all assumed that you are a wind up merchant or just plain stupid!

Are you trolling or genuinely ignorant* ?
Gareth. You may know how to round numbers but you are refusing to acknowledge the consequences. The reasons for the decimal places was presented by NotBG and your-very-self in the third and fifth posts. If you cannot grasp the obvious advantage TO THE CONSUMER of selling energy to as many decimal places as possible then perhaps you should consider adult numeracy classes.
* I mean ignorant only in it's polite formal sense, of course.0 -

Gareth:
I pay 2.771p per unit (before VAT). If I use 10000 units in a year and my supplier rounded it up to 3p I'd be paying an extra £22.90. But they don't. So how do they benefit from that?0 -

Not really, there are cameras and the tills are electronic, they know who was on a given till at them time, items have to go through the barcode reader etc, as I said this was an old method in its day. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Can someone start an online petition to limit the use of these ? In these difficult economic times, when hard working families are worried about the price of fuel the last thing we need is these spivs and fat cats using more of these unregulated decimal points.Happy chappy0

If an item was £1 they could simply pocket the pound and wouldn't need to open the till for the 1p change. Similar with other prices. Very old method of ensuring staff don't steal from the till.
Most people pay by some sort of card these days, and not many buy just one item @ 99p so the more items bought the bigger difference in change to be given, it is a con to "mislead" people into thinking the item is cheaper, like petrol stations charging, say £1.09 a litre, why not be honest and say £1.10, because if you put in 2 litres, (usually the least you can dispense), they are not going to give you 0.02p change because it does not exist, the lowest denomination in this country is 1pence, and that is how prices should be displayed, non of these %'s of a pence just to attempt to confuse people, ( although maybe it works or they would not continue to do it!).
If you buy something at £999.99 do you really think that it is not truly £1000? Or any other such higher priced examples.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0
