Problems iwith Dixons - advice gratefully received!

Hi - I'm hoping someone can give me some advice on this one please!
Last December we bought a Philips Home Cinema system from Dixons online. Earlier this year it the DVD player developed a fault, which, when I searched the internet, seemed to be a common fault (why didn't I do this before i bought it?!).
Dixons sent out an engineer to replace the laser - he said, worryingly, that the fault was a common one and was "likely to happen again"!
It has - and I have now asked Dixons for a refund as I know if they replace or repair it it is bound to happen again and this time no doubt once our 12 month warranty has expired.
They have said that because it is longer than 28 days since we purchased it they will only repair it - as they have the chance to repair it 3 times before even offering us an exchange!
On their website they claim to offer a repair, exchange or refund if there is a fault - and having looked at some consumer stuff on the internet I have found out about refunds being offered if there is an "inherent fault".
Can anyone offer any advice on this - sorry if longwinded!

More than likely they will offer another system, they more than likely will not give a refund, if your dealing with the tech guys you have my deapest sympathy, they are worse, I had a TV engineer from there, he spent two hours looking at my TV (The sound had gone) and he said "I've come to the conclusion you have no sound" I was like OMG 2 hours and your realised that!

Keep complaining at dixons, they need to be told you won't go away.

  • Unfortunately, the returns policy states that the same problem needs to occur and be sent for repair three times within 28 days (or so) for you to qualify for a refund/new item.
