British Gas - what time is their call centre open until?
Their recorded massage says their 'business hours' are 8am - 8pm, but what happens if you call them and get put on hold a few minutes before 8pm?
The looped music message is continuing after 8pm, implying I'm still in a queue, but have they all gone home now, or are they still answering those calls placed on hold before 8pm?
I have a sneaking suspicion I already know the answer, but I just thought I'd check...:rotfl:
TIA

I should think if you are still in the queue after 8pm, you will be automatically directed to their answer machine.
I work in a call centre and that is what happens at ours.0 -
If you need to call BG again here is a freephone number 0800 048 02020

there have been cases of people left listening to that a while but usually if they have been transferred and its something that doesn't happen now it would just cut you off.
I cant speak for every department but the 4 centers I know about all stay behind to clear the queue if needed. We don't just let people stay on hold.
And ring before 8 you sod, its people like you keep me out of the pub0 -

Hi Paul
I called about 7.45pm, and the initial message was that there was a delay of about 30 minutes.
After that there was a continous loop of (naff) music and sales messages until I gave up at 8.25pm. There was no indication that the call status had changed after the official end of business at 8pm, so I would probably still be hanging on until the next morning if I'd stayed on the line.
Any idea what the least busy time of day to call them is? Ta!
And thanks to bristolleedsfan for the 0800 number, v useful!0 -
I work for BG the call centre is open from 8 till 8, the number is 0800 048 0202, I work on the Essentials Tariff line if anybody wants to know anythink?0

the etm emergency line will say it is closed but if you stay on the line there are options after that statementI am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

It's possible you've got stuck on the lloop' ie. you have called before 8pm, so the phone isn't just going to cut off, as you are already on the line. Where as if you had called at 8.02pm for example, you may have found that you would have received a message stating that the office was closed.0

As a call centre person, I would say that it depends on if the members of staff there feel like taking a call at 7:59, that will be unpaid after 8 and mean them missing their train/bus home. Fairly likely do you think? no, thought not.
Best time to ring is in the weekdays daytime. On another note, you're less likely to get a part-timer then, aswell, so the member of staff you speak to will likely be more experienced and able to answer your query if it is particularly difficult.0
