    Hi, medical,

Your best option is to go to a solicitor. STEP practitioners are specialists in estate planning and trusts

  • A solicitor should only be necessary if your estate or will is complicated. Otherwise, you can get books from your local public library which will tell you how to write a will. Most of them are based on English law, so if you live elsewhere in the UK, be careful. Of course, one advantage of solicitors is you don't have to search around for disinterested witnesses.

i need a basic 1, everything to hubby & kids. very short on cash, anyone know where to get cheapest that is legal? am rubbish with legal stuff so a bit wary of doing it myself as will prob get it all wrong!!
Cleaning the house while children are growing is like shovelling snow when it's still snowing!
  • Personally I would get things like this done by a professional.

Have you though about what would happen if hubby died before you .....have you thought about who would look after the children?

Also it might be worth thinking about what would happen if your children died before you as well .....I know I'm sounding morbid but it does happen that whole families are killed at the same time in accidents.

You may also want to put your wishes in about your funeral arrangements as well.

If you have children then almost by definition your estate or will is complicated. Who do you leave the kids to if both parents die? We've appointed guardians, we don't expect them to have the kids to live with them but to make decisions with the kids' best interests at heart, depending on how old they are when we pop our clogs.

  • We went to a solicitor... because we'd discussed everything beforehand and written it all down, it took less than an hour with him (about £100 in total or so I think, probably less) and it was all done and dusted! Even down to the music we want to be played! :rotfl:
