Offers In Excess of £250,000?

There are a couple of flats near us with an asking price of OIEO £250,000. Why would anyone do this? they must know no-one is going to pay more that £249,999 (Stamp duty threshold)?
Any ideas?

You'd be surprised actually. There are many people who look to buy property who have no idea about stamp duty, how much it will cost them, the thresholds etc.
Just 2 years ago I worked with a married woman with 3 kids, on their 3rd house who had been out looking at houses and was gobsmacked when she had found out about stamp duty.0 -
The estate agent appears to have manipulated the photo of the bedroom to get rid of the purple decor.
I doubt it is getting much interest...may be awful when you see it in real life. It is basement flat with a boxed-in north-facing patio.
It is on the large size but I would imagine that basement flats are difficult to shift right now. £220k?0 -

You can pay £250,000 and only pay 1% SDLT - it is over £250,000 that the 3% rate applies. Apart from saving £1 on the price (and because of round down), £1 SDLT, all this £249,999 stuff is unnecessary.RICHARD WEBSTER
