RAC Autowindscreens

A few weeks ago I got a letter from RAC Autowindscreens asking for £70 I
apparently owed them. It related to a car window I had replaced on my
insurance 18 months ago, at the time I paid the window fitter cash for the
replacement but they have just got a new accounting system and have lost a
few months of payments data. I spent 2 hours looking for my receipt, along
with calls to the RAC premium number and my insurer. I sent the receipt to
the RAC along with a letter of complaint asking for compensation and
received a reply apologising but offering no compensation. What should I do
now?

I understand that the FSA guidelines value my time at £10 an hour so I don't
think it unreasonable to ask for £25 to cover my time and phone calls, but
how do I go about this?

Anyone got any tips on how to get some compensation?

Thanks,
Simon

You think you are entitled to £25 because it took you two hours to find the paperwork?

What if it took you 10 hours, or twenty?

A better filing system would have allowed you to find it in minutes. You expect RAC to pay for this?

Perhaps a fiver to cover the costs you incurred, but £25?

No The FSA do not value your time at £10 an hour

    1) The FSA do not cover RAC windscreens so there findings are irrelevent
    2) The FSA value time upto £10 an hour - this depends on circumstances

i.e some minimum wage joke or dole queue scum who have nothing better to do get nothing, whereas a highly experienced person who has to take a lot of time out of work to deal with the issue gets the maximum

I dont think you are deserving of anything at all for this sort of issue as its not particularly serious and I dont see how you have lost out.

Legally your probably entitled to the cost of the stamp:rolleyes:

Put an Insurance claim in against them.

2 hours tidying your own house must have left you with some kind of injury, not to mention so much stress you are unable to work or look at a windscreen again.

Jeeez! read your own post again!!

You're not entitled to anything. Once you found the reciept you should have just kept it safe and let them waste their time and money chasing you for a debt they could not possibly ever win (seeing as you had the receipt - but no need to tell them that except in court.)
  • Phone one of those daytime TV, ambulance chaser claims lines. They would love to take on your case.

What is it with people these days......

These companies must be stopped. The latest weeze in these credit crunch times for companies to rake in some extra cash by 'losing' data and sending out demands for payment - for 18 months ago!!!

Why don't the compnanies just write off the payments, they lost their own data :rotfl:, rather than sending out bills hoping some people will not be able to remember that far back and pay up.

Well it is unreasonable. It's not their fault you haven't got a clue where you've put anything. I have all stuff like that filed within arms reach of me now. It takes me 10 seconds to find anything.
