garden into driveway

hi all

firstly my apologies if this is in the wrong place as was not sure where to post.

parking is becoming a major problem where ever u go and every one wants to park outside their house (for those that havent got a garage or drive)this is becoming even more as households tend to have more than one car nowadays.

anyway the problem being that 3 houses in my street converted their garden into drives not much of a problem really but 2 of the gardens are not big enough to actually have the car in so when parked it is sticking out on the pavement which is annoying. they havent applied for any planning application i dont think you need it.

few points that are 1 of the guys is a trader and he has just gone and brought some long wheel base vans they stick out even further and it is annoying to have to walk on the road.

is there anything that can be done about this or some place i can complain or read up regarding this

thanks for taking ur time any replies would be appreciated very much

I'd guess the first port of call would be the local council or whoever enforces parking restrictions in your area. Blocking the footpath is, I believe, an offense. It would also be worth taking some photos of this for evidence. All IMHO of course

I believe you need permission to convert a front garden for vehicle access.

any car overlapping the pavement is parked illegally and if it is causing an obstruction to pedetrians, prams or wheel chairs then you can call your local parking dept and report the vehicle for illegal parking. they usually despatch a warden (within 2 hours) and if it is indeed causing an a real obstruction, ticket the vehicle.

I would only use this nuclear option if you have no alternative there was a real problem.
