Looking for a charity that makes burial garments for children

Hiya,

I'm looking to donate my wedding dress to a charity that makes burial garments for children. it sounds very specific, I know, but there is one in the States that does this and I think it's such a worthy cause I would like to donate my dress to anything similar in the UK.

The charity in the US is called heavenly angels in need.

If someone can help me find something similar or another equally worthy cause I would appreciate it. I'm not really interested in donating it to be sold on though.

Thanks

You can search the Guidestar website for charities by keyword, but I've not in a very quick search found anything.

But I did with a google find this ... if you click on Donations they say they use wedding dresses to make burial gowns. I would contact them first because they sound like a small group rather than an established charity.

Alternatively I know one of our friends has arranged for several wedding dresses to emigrate from the UK to an African country she has links with. There is apparently great excitement within the church when a 'new' dress arrives because the dresses are kept by the church and loaned out, each one making several appearances!

Savvy_Sue, what lovely idea, I may be tempted to send my dress.

Yes, I should probably have shown that they are the group I linked to. Great to know we have a knitter for them on the boards!

Thanks everyone for your helpful replies, and sorry to have only just replied. I had set the site to email me when someone replied but it hadn't for some reason... I came back to bump the thread and lo and behold I had some good replies :) I will get onto this next week and feel very happy about where it's going!

    Thanks again

I have managed to email today (when I said next week I had assumed I had to phone...duh!)

I was so so sorry to hear that the founder of Loving Hands had been through so much recently. I have been praying for her and would ask anyone else who is so inclined to do the same. We need more inspirational people like her in the world and I hope she gets much better soon.

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction and to such a wonderful charity.

I'm involved with a charity making burial gowns for babies and children but all the materials have to be brand new as far as I know. I could contact them to check if you want, please pm me.
