My elderly dog has just been prescribed gabapentin for his worstening arthritis. The vet gave us one week's supply (21 tablets) for a jaw dropping cost of £33.50 which works out at wopping £1.60 per tablet! We love our dog but at this price our pet insurance will run out after 3 months and we just can't afford £1000 month. Fortunately, after reading this thread I phoned our local pharmacy and explained the problem. They are more than happy to supply the Gabapentin (with a vets script) for ....... wait for it ......... £5.75 for 100 tablets! :j

All we've got to do now is pursuade the vet to give us a script for more than one month (they charge £24 per perscription)

    Thanks everyone

If they charge £24 per prescription I would change vets as in my books thats not a reasonable admin charge thats just taking the !!!!. Ours charges £5 per prescription most other vets around here charge £10 or £12

I agree £24 for a script is taking the !!!! If our dog was younger or less infirm (arthritis, deaf & blind) I would definitely change vets but at this stage I don't want to be putting him through the stress of unfamiliar surroundings. I'll just have to bite the bullet and try to negotiate a reduction.
