Hi i need to buy a laptop price range £300-£400 what are my options? who should i look out for?
wont be using it for games, maybe play/stream movies but more surfing on move (not so much downloading) 150-200gb hard-drive is ok...
who are the most reputable guys around now?
also i need to be able to access the internet on the move, from anywhere around my home town city (coventry) i heard this can be dont now via a "dongle"? im not sure what this is?!
i think its just a small device that fits into back of laptop which enables me to access the net? (hope its that simple!) is there a monthly subscription for one of these dongles? or can i do it like "pay as you go" kind thing?
also are there any limits to the amount i can surf with a dongle? or is it just pay and surf as much as i want?
Sorry for all the questions! i havent bought a laptop before so i dont really know the market and ive never surfed on the move before!
all help will be greatly appreciated!
thanks

thanks, how much is a decent dell laptop these day? should i go for the core duo processor?
is it compatable to surf on the move?
cheers0 -
The dongle works on a mobile phone signal, speeds will not be great.
Acer, HP or Toshiba would be my choice. Buy a Dell if you want to pay for loads of things you don't wantIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0 -

Care to elaborate?0 -
what kind of speeds do you get with mobile surfing/connections then?...is it just liek dial-up?
i've done some more reading and it seems most of the mobile phone companies t-mobile, voda etc do offer the service but they expect you to sign up for an 18-24 months contract!!
i wouldnt be using it everday anyway so i think thats going to cost me alot!
anybody know if you can do it on a pay as you go type thing?
Thanks for you help0 -
Why is it you want to access the internet on the move0

Hi,
I have joined T Mobile, mobile broadband. I was advised that 3 or T mobile have the best mobile broadband coverage. I pay £30 a month & got a free laptop with that deal. I paid £30 extra to upgradethe laptop (you could pay upto £100 i think for a better spec but this is a second laptop). This was through the carphone warehouse & they kindly gave me an accessory pack that included a carry case, blank dvds, a memory stick and wireless laser mouse. Online withT mobile they have some good deals (cheaper per month) but i was happy with our deal,

Have a look at the netbooks like the Asus 901. It's rumoured that T-mobile will release an Asus 901 with the 3G modem build-in, so no need for a seperate dongle. Plus the Asus has wi-fi for hotspots.0

becuase i travel for work and need internet access while im travelling.
LISA: how many months are you tied into the contract at £30 per month for? how much would your laptop have cost otherwise?
are you limited to the amount of hours per day/week/month you can use? (including downloads etc) and whats the speed like, or does this depend on where your using it?
when you in a wi-fi hotspot (i heard mcdonalds is free?) are you allowed to just connect for free? (therefore not using the dongles connection but a different one?...this could save on monthly usage, as im sure the dongle has a maximum monthy usage?)
Thanks for all your help0
