Help! Natwest giving me the run around!

in Credit cards
Hi everyone,
I need some advice. I recently applied for a STUDENT credit card with Natwest, but was declined. I decided to accept that I had been declined, but then a week later I had a letter through that explained the credit scoring process that they do. I decided to then challenge their decision, as I'm an 18 year old student and have no credit score!
I wrote them a letter explaining the reasons why I should not have been declined and gave them reasons why I am in a much better position than most students out there. I received a letter back saying that their "Cards Lending Unit" reviewed my application and had seen there there are outstanding arrears on my name. I again replied to the letter and explained that if there are arrears on there, they are under my fathers name who has the same name as me! The only difference is my middle name, which I use all the time on applications so if I DID have any credit, it would be under my full name.
They have replied today and said that I need to send them three months worth of statements from any other accounts that I may have (including any savings accounts) so that they can consider my application further! Are they allowed to do this? Should I tell them no? How can I reply to this?
They have also said I haven't used my student bank account since I opened it a few months back, but I haven't because I wanted to work out my budget first and then transfer the money I need to use over. Also, I haven't received any of the free student pack, railcard or webcam that I was offered! I pointed this out when I complained and all they said is I would need get in contact with my local branch - bad service or what!
Can anyone advise what I can do? Normally I wouldn't be too bothered, but this is disgusting customer service and I wanted to point out that I'm 18 - I don't have any outstanding arrears!
Could anyone help?
Thanks very much guys.

Yes, they're entitled to ask for the statements. Its them whose lending money, credit isn't a right.
Personally I don't know why you need a credit card if you're a student, during my time of university I didn't know of one person who used it correctly, just maxed it out.
Your decision though, however you must remember that you're asking them for the credit, not the other way around, so they're entitled to do whatever investigation they like on your finances to see if you qualify for the credit.0
