Cancelling a switch
Options
I had someone from EDF come to the door and we looked at the prices and yes it was cheaper so I agreed to sign up for the fixed price deal, but I only had an electricity bill to hand so wasn't sure about the gas. But I was assured I had the right to cancel within 12 days if the gas price didn't stack up.
When I did get a gas bill, I looked at it in more detail and it didn't seem such a good deal. Plus there was a £50 cancellation charge I hadn't been told about and wouldn't have agreed to. So I sent off the cancellation form.
Only EDF are saying they've never received that form, and although I've asked them to cancel they say they can't. They say I'm going to have to join them for at least 28 days. I've also contacted my previous supplier, but they say they can't stop it either.
None of this has actually happened yet (electricity in a couple of days, gas in about 2 weeks), but it seems I'm powerless to stop it. And I presume that I'll not only have to pay their prices for a month, I'll also have to pay the £50 fee.
Is it at all possible to stop this?

In a word, no. Your old supplier should waive the 50 if they want you back tho.0
