Just signed up for Sky

After a lot of swithering and reading customer crits about Tiscali, I've decided to leave BT and go for Sky. (The see, talk, surf package) "Look out" I hear you saying but I checked with other users I know first. My daughter will get £50 of M & S vouchers for recommending me and I'll get a sky+HD box. I get the HD mix and 3 other mixes of telly stuff as well as free broadband for the basic package which I am assured is plenty for me and unlimited calls incl. international. All that for £105 for the box and installation (reduced price as introduced by a friend) and £29 per month for a year min. + the line rental from BT
It seems a good deal but I know I'm taking a chance. At least calls to Sky are free if I have problems. Being fitted up with the telly stuff within 2 days but the phone/bb will take longer - just asked BT for my Mac code.

I've been paying Bt £55.50 pm just for phone and broadband so it looks like a "no brainer"

OK - now tell me I'm in for trouble.....................................

You appear to have done a good job of convincing yourself so I won't try to 'de-convince' you.

I will, however, query the £55.50 per month figure you quote.

I pay BT £10.50 per month for landline and £14.99 for BT Total Broadband Option 1 - a total of £25.49 per month.

What do you pay the extra £30.01 for?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

That would be for calls and Norton through click&buy

Wish you'd asked earlier - I think a click on the HERE link in my signature below would have reduced your costs considerably ages ago.

I just phoned to cancel my Bt Yahoo anytime broadband and was going to switch to another provider.

BT have however changed my mind. They are now giving me free eve & weekend calls 25% off calls to mobiles, line rental Total Broadband, free caller display, free wireless router and modem inc free set up.
Total cost inc line rental £19.99 per month inc Vat.

Saving at least £153 per year.

Yes the rotton swines offered me that as well when I asked for a Mac code. I told them to shove it where the sun.........etc. Could have offered it to me when I was happily paying up, but no, only when I called to cancel.
Still my fault for inertia over a long period.

Yes, you are quite right. I was always going to do something about alternative numbers but kept putting it off. Thanks for that though. It looks like I have no alternative to using Sky for all calls. I am free anytime for 01,02 and 03 but I think it's 7p connection for others plus a rate per minute.
I don't think there is any way out of that other than the mobile route which is probably dearer anyway.

Unless of course you know of a fix?

Update - just checked back with Bt seems the advisor only put me on the basic broadband which is no use to me as we are heavy users. I was then offered option 3 at £16 per month.

So cancelled and am now of to Sky with faster downloads and bigger usage and saving even more dosh :rotfl:

See my post above re recommend a friend. Person recommending will get £50 vouchers and you can get the same or £75 off a sky+ or sky+HD.

You can do most of it online yourself if you have the address/postcode and name of the person recommending. They phone you to finalise it. Suggest you talk on-line with a sales person - you can negotiate. Remember to copy and paste the chat so that you can hold them to any offer made!!!

Be interested to hear your impressions of sky service in due course
  • Thanks but Im already with Sky for the TV only and have had Free Sky plus installed today after saying I wished to cancel.
    Quidco £196 - Voucher Codes £408 - GC Saved £603
    P.A.D. £[strike]4720[/strike] / £4330- Jan GC £375/Spent £283.78

Going to get Sky HD soon, just looking at the best deals to sign up on line.

Currently one off cost of £75 - Through Quidco get £70 cash back, so got that down to a £5 :)

Is there any other ways to get more money off? apart from the 'ring them up every 3 months and say i want to cancel and get a nice reduction each time"

Hi, we signed up for Sky+ on Tuesday plus decided to take Sky Talk Unlimited Calls. Have always been with BT and I'm now worried if I've made the right decision in swapping to Sky Talk but it does sound a very good deal. I'm concerned at the prospect of losing my BT call minder. Had no previous intention of getting Sky but the offer was very good and gave in to temptation. Hope I won't regret it.

As long as you haven't handed over your line rental to Sky too, you will be able to change back to BT (or to any other CPS calls provider) in a month or so.
