E.O.N Say I Must Pay New Rate During Transfer Out Period.

Options
Can someone please give me a link to info contradicting what E.O.N are saying please.

I applied to switch from E.O.N following its last price increase announcement, the switch itself wont take place until 8th October.

"Hello Mr ..... and thank you for your email.

I am sorry to hear that you are leaving E.ON.

As you were not on one of our price protection tariff's you have been charged at our new prices since 22 August 2008. We only offer our lower prices to customers who agreed to switch to our price protection tariff's.

I trust I have resolved your query, if you have any further questions please call me on 0845 302 3812 and I will be happy to help."

Kind regards

To avoid the price increase, you needed to notify EOn themselves within 10 working days of receiving notice of the price increase.

If you didn't give notice to them as required, then you are liable to pay in the increased tariff from its effective date.

No price increase notice has been received.

My application to switch from E.O.N to BG was based on media publicity regarding E.O.N price increase announcement.

If they haven't notified you of the price increase at all, then they cannot enforce it. They have some ridiculous period like 65 days to notify you, after the date of the increase, but the 10 day notice period you have runs from the date of notification.

Either the person e-mailing you is a numpty, or they indeed intend to charge you the wrong rate from 22 August and you will need to argue the point when you get your final statement.

In either case, I'd e-mail them back pointing out that they haven't notified you of any price increase, and you haven't therefore accepted the price increase, and therefore it doesn't apply to your supply contract.

I am currently in the throes of moving supplier, but they have clearly stated (off their own bat) that the price increase will not apply.

Unfortunately I had this very problem when I left them - they will get very aggressive and start threatening legal action against you.

However, the terms of the supply contract are on your side. See clause 3 of their own terms & conditions.

You probably won't ever get a correct invoice, but if you write to their MD, Graham Bartlett, at their registered office, (use recorded delivery!) one of his office staff will re-calculate what you should pay and the deduct the difference from your account. The normal CS staff do not seem to have access to the necessary computer screens to do this, so asking them is pointless, imo.

    Good luck! :)

Of course, you do need to give notice that you do not accept the proposed (backdated) price rise and arrange for another supplier to take over the supply contract as per the terms & conditions

    Bristol,

you spoke to a numpty!;) I work for E.ON and you are right, they have to charge you at the lower rate as you have yet to be notified of the price increase and you are in the process of leaving.

I would advise you phone the Change of supplier enquiry line and inform them you are leaving and want to be charged at the preprice increase rate. Unfortunately the only number i have for that particular department is an 0845 one off the website, i have an 0800 number but that's for a general department.

    www.eonenergy.com/contactus

They will then arrange for your account to be credited with the difference. So your bill will show you have been charged at the higher rates but then there will be an adjustment showing on there.

I would also ask for a complaint to be raised as the girl who emailed you needs some training.
  • Useful for anyone else who needs to make similar point.

"REQUEST THAT A MANAGER REVIEWS MY CONCERNS.

I applied to migrate from E.O.N via British Gas following E.ONs last price rise media announcement.

E.O.N havent notified me of my price increase, therefore I havent had the opportunity to inform E.O.N that I reject the price increase within 10 days of such a price increase notification.

I haven't therefore accepted E.O.Ns price increase, and therefore it doesn't apply to my supply contract.

Please now confirm that I will be charged the pre increase tariffs from 22nd august 2008 till the time that my supply finally switches to British Gas

Thank you in advance of your favourable consideration of this matter."

    Subject: Your reply from E.ON

    Account number:

Hello Mr ....... and thank you for your email.

Our price increases were announced via the media; this was aimed at a high level and gave a general indication to all interested parties that prices were increasing. We've been informing each of our domestic customers of their specific individual price increases via letter.

Posting of these letters has been staggered to ensure that customers wishing to contact us to discuss the content will be able to get through to our customer service lines as we appreciate that any price increase can have a serious impact on individual finances and we want to ensure that customers will be offered the correct advice to meet their concerns.

You were sent your letter on 16 September; it is from this date that you have 14 days to contact us regarding the change in your supplier. As you are still within this timeline we will honour your pre price change unit rates.

As your supply is in the process of leaving us, when your new supplier confirms your final meter readings to us, we will credit any price increases that we have charged you and this will show on your final statement.

I trust this resolves your query and I assure you of my best intention on this matter.

    Kind regards

Well done, blf. Glad that you got it sorted.

It's poor practice to send out an improperly dated letter which then give you 14 days to contact them.

I also note that their system is to apply the increase and then credit it back. That seems to differ from how Scottish Power are going to deal with it in my case, but we'll see when I get my next bill.
  • Great stuff, BLF! It does make you wonder just how many people who DON'T know their rights (90%+?) and/or aren't a member here get done in this way?

I have to admit :o that it was only reading MMD thread on SP last week or so that made me think about what rate I was going to be charged at during the transfer out period and I did believe that my transfer in application to BG who would in turn notify E.O.N would have been a sufficient notification to E.O.N for me to be charged at the pre increase rate during the transfer out period. :o

At end of July E.O.N paid me 70.00 cashback with supply taking effect from 5th August, having used zero gas I believe that E.O.N will have covered me for the two months or so I will have been with them. ( first 225 units is expensive at E.O.N though. :()

Luckily I applied to BG when BG was offering 60.00 Dual fuel cashback, since then BG/E.O.Ns dual fuel cashback rates via 100% cashback sites have fallen to 20/30.00. :(
