Claiming Jsa

I was made redundant in June this year and have been claiming JSA. My boyfriend has just set up a LTd company installing Double Glazing And is requiring himself me and his mother all to be directors shareholders in the company. On his accountants advice, to reduce his tax bill. If we were to do this would this affect our JSA? Neither of us would be getting any money. Only he would be drawing a divident and wage.
Any help greatly received.

On the basis of what you have said, you will be classed as self employed. You will be a Director
You would have to declare this to the Jobcentre and also explain what hours you work... may be nil.
You would also have to provide evidence of income from the Business... which may be nil.
At the end of the day a Decision Maker would look at the statements made by yourself to determine actual or deemed earnings.
Just because you are not drawing a wage dosn't mean you are not contributing something to the Business. The hours worked, whether actually working or just supporting the business all add up. These may put you in an 'availibility' position.
At the end of the day, you can't have it both ways. Pay less tax on one hand but claim more money at the same time ??0 -
A WORD OF WARNING.
As shareholder directors if the company goes belly up, which is highly likely at the moment as the building trade and anything remotely related to it is in decline, you would find yourselves in the firing line as well as him.
