Electric Meter - Night Tariff

Options
We moved into our house 6 months ago and its an old house with a meter which has 2 readings on it a low reading (referred to in our bills as a night time tariff) and normal reading. The 'low' reading never alters (ie, the reading is the same today as what it was when we moved in 6 months ago), it's the 'normal' reading which is the one we are billed for (and the one which whizzes round!)

Can anyone explain what these 2 readings are?, in our last house which was only 4 years old and we had from new, the electric meter only had one reading on it so I am confused!

The meter you have is the sort that is normally used when you are on an Economy 7 (E7) tariff which is for houses with electrcity night storeage heaters. It may be your house used to have this type of heating and it has been removed but the old meter was left in place. As long as you are on a standard (24/7 tariff) and the night register is not moving you have nothing to worry about.

I wouldn't be that bold. You could still be on a 2 rate supply but due to a timeswitch fault it's not getting registered as usage. You then run the risk of having a back-dated bill to pay if it's spotted. You don't have to be on an E7 product for this to happen.
