Switching to talktalk

I currently have
  1. A BT line
  2. BE unlimited internet
  3. 1899.com access
1899 has become rather expensive, I am thinking of changing to talk talk for my voice calls, is it best to use them for this purpose?

I don't really want to setup a complex call routing system to go via different providers, I just want a simple set and forget solution.

5p for calls of unlimited duration is expensive?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

It is if you make alot of calls.
  • Like Heinz, I don't understand what you mean.

Where else are you going to get a better deal than 5p for a call of unlimited duration? Not at TalkTalk, so far as I am aware.

Remember, you don't have to prefix every call with 1899 if you think it is going to be of very short duration.

1899 has saved me countless pounds on long-duration calls.

Even short calls are cheaper with the likes of 18185/1899. Eg

Short 1 minute peak geographical call with BT 4p +7 p connection =11p
Same call via 18185/1899 just 5p.

Perhaps the original poster was thinking of getting an inclusive 24/7 geographical call bundle from Talk Talk £4.50 a month for first year. This is equilavent to 90 peak calls a month on 18185/1899.So they would need to make approximately 21 peak calls a week for it to be cost effective.
