Help, please, with Garmin Edge 705 GPS for cycle

Can anyone help? OH has a Garmin Edge 705 GPS, which he uses on long distance European cycle rides/races. He wants to extend his use of it, I've asked him what he wants and the detail is below - he has an SD card with Garmin Mapsource 'Full Europe' on it and a Dell XPS M1330 laptop.

He would like to be able to view on the laptop and download maps as needed to a card; he will only really use UK, France and Spain and as he understands it there may be capacity issues by dowloading the whole lot, but having the ability to view on the laptop would mean he can then plan routes and download to the unit.

I've not personally used it, but it looks like Garmin Training Centre will do most of what he needs - though I'm not sure about whether it will let him download only a subset of maps to the unit's SD card. Normally I would use their PC-based Mapsource software to do that, but I don't know if that works with an Edge.
