Cancelling A Credit Card Account Whilst It's In Credit

I have a credit card account with Egg and it's £259 in credit. I no longer use the card and want to cancel it, but I'm worried that I'll lose the £259! Does anyone know what's the best thing I could do? I was just going to write to them and request they send me a cheque for the amount of the credit.... or should I just do a balance transfer?
I have contacted Egg, but as usualy their customer support email is about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

So long as there are no interest, or other purchase, charges pending, then the (cheapest, because it doesn't sound like you want to ring them to find out?) best approach may be to send them a concise, but specific, secure message asking them to close the account and forward any positive balance to your DD account.
If it's the Egg Card (and not Egg Money card), then I wouldn't risk a BT because they may apply a fee.
And don't forget to cancel any CPA's, if any, you have on the account.0 -
They will be able to issue a cheque if you card is in a positive balance. Just call them up.0

I am in the same situation (not with Egg), I rang them up and they said I had to put the request in writing.0

Can Egg not do a BACS transfer, then shut the account? That would be far less time consuming.0
