Barclaycard Travel Rewards aka buy and Fly

hi All,

I have had a Morgan Stanley card for a few years, and I have built up 3000 buy and fly points.

The trouble is, I have never found anything I wanted to spend them on. I was quite interested in the IrishFerries voucher, but when I rang up to find out how much if I wanted to "upgrade" to a ticket for a car, the lady at B & F said that they couldn't give me a price until I had received the voucher. So I don't know if it is going to save me money or not.

Has anyone used their B & F points? And was it worht it.

now that Morgan Stanley have been taken over by Barclaycard, I'm thinking of cancelling this card, and getting another rewards card, that might actually get me something I would use (BA card, maybe),

Many thanks for any info.

  • I have a similar number of points and the only reward possibly worth having is flights but unlike other schemes you have to pay for taxes and other charges so savings with budget carriers are very small.

Buy and Fly agents are trained to be friendly but at the same time I am none the wiser to my questions - I was trying to get a holiday in the sun voucher but could not establish where and when! Same problem as you.

Barclays have ditched all other reward schemes and do not seem to be offering this card to new applicants. I expect it is a matter of time before this scheme is ditched as well.

My advice would be to look elsewhere such as LLoyds/Amex Air Miles!
  • The company managing the travel rewards scheme has gone into administration. Who knows what if when how this will move forward now
  • I previously worked for Morgan Stanley and even found the Buy and Fly card a mystery! I personally think points cards are pretty useless. Cashback is that way forward at the moment...Amex 5% cashback being the best option at the moment. :money:
  • buy and fly is no longer so unfortunatley any points you had are now useless. Digger1 was spot on with airmiles and the Lloyds Duo Card
  • i contacted them yesterday regarding my points and what I can do with them and was told (as noted above) that the rewards company has gone into administration. the agent then went on to say that I would get a cheque in th epost in approx 1 month for the points I had, agent had no idea of conversion rates or anything like that. I only have ~500 points so not holding out for much but thought it may be useful to others.

does anyone have any more info on this?
  • I have 6067 points and will be dumping Barclaycard if the let me down, which won't surprise me with them. I would like to know what legal standpoint we have against them, has anyone read the smallprint? I wonder what the FSA would think about this?

I have just found this statement on Barclaycard's website:

    http://www.barclaycard.co.uk/travelrewards/
Barclaycard has learned that Landround plc has gone into administration and ceased trading with immediate effect.
Landround provided the loyalty programme for Barclaycard Travel Rewards card customers.
We will be doing all we can to minimise the impact on these customers and we will be in touch with them shortly. Customers’ cards will be unaffected and customers will be able to continue to use their cards as normal.
In the meantime, it will not be possible for Barclaycard Travel Rewards customers to redeem points. We will continue to keep track of how many points customers would have earned during this period.

  • Does anybody remember the offer of free Transatlantic flights for taking out a Platinum card? Barclays now deny it was ever made.
