Help!

Hello,

I am having a major problem with the student loan company. The loan was due to go in on Monday but it didn't, when I called the SLC they said that they had not sent it because the college had not sent them confirmation I had enrolled. So I called the college and they entered me onto the system manually, this was on Monday, still no money by today so I called the SLC again (this is costing me a small fortune in phone calls) and they said they still had not received it. I have called the college again (and gone into see them) and they have entered me onto the system three times now. I have tried calling the course tutor and he said that there was nothing he could do.

Now I don't know what to do as it seems as though I have tried everything and I am getting nowhere.

Is anyone else having this problem, if so what can I do to make sure the money goes in?

  • When I went in on Monday to hand my payment conformation letter in, they said it would take between 3 to 7 days for the money to appear in my account.

I handed my confirmation letter in last Wednesday and still no money though, the college have sent confirmation of my attendence FOUR times now and still no money and the SLC are STILL saying they have not received it.
  • my son is having the same problem too, he was told he would get it when he enrolled then was told it could take 5 working days , his halls are private and they said he will be in the brown stuff if it isnt paid by sun , im lucky that my parents can lend him the money to cover the few days , they say the want children from poorer families to go too uni and then it all goes crap like this and lays loads of stress on kids that have moved away from home for the first time and have maybe no one to help them ,
they also said they want the next payment in nov and his money goes in next from student finance in jan !!, i also have another son that wants to go too uni next year, i think ill book my plot now as i think the stress may finish me off !!

This happens every year and it's pointless stressing really,as it all works out eventually! The Uni knows it will get it's money,as they see copies of the students fiance awards on enrolment. My daughter has had STRICT instructions that she can worry about whatever she likes apart from this!
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!
  • I cannot help but stress, I am a single mother with various animals and I only have £20 to my name. I can't even afford to go into college to get to the lectures!

I am just getting absolutly nowhere with either the college or the SLC, they are both blaming each other and I am just sort of stuck in the middle of it all. The money has been authorised and its just waiting for this confirmation, surely it does not take that much to press a button on a computer?

The money will always take a few days from when you register to reach you. Remember it is not just you that is waiting but students up and down the country. Do you have a student bank account, that would allow you to go overdrawn for the few days necessary before the loan arrives?

  • that happened to me last year, I didn't get my money until end of October in the end as as far as SLC were concerned I hadn't enrolled (I had) and as far as my uni were concerned, I had enrolled and they'd told SLC that!

You need to keep going to your student advice centre to remind them that you haven't been paid, and they'll keep pestering them.

Dumb question time... What's your confirmation letter, where did you hand it in and should I have got one.

I thought you enrolled and the uni let the SLC know I was enrolled and they put my loans into my bank account?

    I'm confused now!

    True.

There will be the occasional error, but in the vast vast majority of cases, you register at the uni and they inform SLC electronically that you have attended and your money gets paid approx 3 working days later. It will go by BACS directly to the bank account you have nominated with SLC.
