  • soooooooooooo sorry folks I didn't report back last night!

It was 9.30 when I got in (crawled in more like!), 10 before I got my dinner (OH hadn't bothered to come round and stick the potatoes in the oven to go with the food in the slow cooker) and I was so stiff and feet hurt so much I had to almost peel myself off the sofa around 11 for bed. He'd fallen asleep as normal, but I didn't think many peeps would be around.

    Weeeeeeeeeeeell, what can I say.

induction, fire tour, health and safety, paperwork - check :D

Course aims and tonights session aims - check :D

little heaven and hell icebreaker - check :D

Talk about storecupboard foods and everyone passing around stuff and sniffing tabasco, trying olives etc - check.:D

OK, time to start cooking - about 5 minutes behind but I thought, ok can pull this back.:D

Ingredients in pan for stock. :D

Cookers on - click, click, click, click, click...............no gas...........

Only 2 cookers (electric ones) were working so all 7 learners shared the 8 rings. It slowed things down as they had to go to their pans/stir/retrieve pans etc one at a time and also I lost a good 5 or more minutes when we were trying all the cookers.

It started to feel rather rushed and at the end it was a case of soup blitzed, in tub, here are the ingredients, thanks for coming, see you next week.

I guess if I were looking for a positive to the lack of gas, it was that it meant they got to know each a bit!!!

So, I was happy with it all until we started cooking and then it got a bit  but from next week we are starting cooking immediately so that won't happen again. I also had a chat with the site manager when he arrived to lock up and he promised the gas would be on for me. Guess what the first thing I'll be checking next week is! :rotfl:

I lay awake at 4 for about an hour, physically pooped and aching all over :o but my mind was replaying all the  moments over and over again and I was beating myself up a bit over the bits that I felt weren't right. However, each lesson is about tweaking and self-evaluation and I've already had a few thoughts, so next week will be fine!!!

today, I feel stiff and tired and I seem to have pulled something on the top of my foot as I'm hobbling a bit but I might go and get a bottle of wine to relax with tonight as OH is at footy practice.

I just hope they don't all feel it was a bit much for them, most are complete beginners - they all left clutching tubs of soup, but it was quite fast in the last 5 minutes or so getting cleared up and doing the last blitzing bit.

It felt very weird talking and the people listening to my every word!!

Well done BB:T - if you can cope with no gas I'm guessing you'll cope with anything!

Perhaps you could have 5 minutes next week for them to ask any questions they have from this week to make up for it being rushed?

Don't beat yourself up over small things that you feel could be better. Chances are you're the only person who noticed them and like you say, its a work in progress as you've never done it before.

    Well done again:T

  • Well done BB! :) It'll no doubt take a few weeks for both you and them to settle in - even if you'd done it a million times, it's still a new group of people to get to know and figure out what suits them. You've put so much thought into it, and obviously care about it, which I think makes for a great teacher.

  • oooooooh, it was a nightmare Sar - I did start to feel a bit flustered and it could have shown but I tried to keep smiling, was extra positive and kept going.

I'm going to start off next week by saying that it won't be as rushed because there is gas and also because all the paperwork is done (try to deflect it a bit!) and we can take it a much more relaxed pace next week.

I also made the mistake of standing with my back to the clock when doing the ingredients bit and the time ran away with us a bit, so another bit of learning for me, but hey, it was all just as new to me as them!!

You're right squirrel - I really care. They've paid good money to come along and I want them to have the best experience they can. I read you had a good time as well - excellent!!!

  • Hi everyone :)

Well done BB! :T :T :T you did soooo well especially with the gas being off! you know they won't be analysing it half as much as you, just enjoying the fruits of their labour I bet!

Another awful day here in the office, I can't wait to go and pick up DS. So weird sometimes that he is just 10 floors below me yet I can't see him all day. I went out and bought him a coat today - I looked in Monsoon and they had a lovely cord duffel coat - £40! So I went to John Lewis, not expecting them to be exactly cheap, and found almost the same thing for £26 - still a lot but it's just as nice as the one from Monsoon. So I got myself a jumper too :money: :D

Oh and I are rowing about how to get to work. There is no good solution and it is really stressing me out. I am even thinking of getting a bike and cycling in with DS, though the idea terrifies me.
