Lenders won't do that. This is because you would, at some stage, have 2 lots of mortgage money in your own account - and each lender would want that to be a secured loan....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Yes, lender will want solicitor to check the title and carry out some searches (although some/all of these might be covered by insurance) and make sure that the money was not paid out to you unless the existing mortgage was first discharged.
This is a normal remortgage and would be dealt in the same away as nay other remortgage. You can use the broker's recommended solicitor, or (unless the lender is particularly fussy about which solicitors it will use) you can pick one of your own. The lender has to approve the solicitor because the lender will also be the solicitor's client, and typically the lender requires things to be checked that you as an individual would probably not be brothered with.RICHARD WEBSTER
