AVG cannot uninstall

Options
Friend had AVG 7.5 installed on his laptop. He downloaded AVG8 (free) and installed it thinking it would overwrite/uninstall AVG7.5 automatically. Now AVG does not work. AVG7.5 icon and program is still on his laptop. Tried uninstalling it but it stops with an error statement. Tried restore point but can only go back a few days. What can he do to regain AVG. He is running vista.

Thanks
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

I have heard of this before, because it happened to me! It is possible to resolve though, basically you need to go into safe mode to uninstall the old version, then install the new version.

    Start>Run
    Type msconfig
Select Boot > Safe Boot tick box.
    Restart PC

Once windows has loaded, try uninstalling all AVG versions on your PC. I managed this by running the NEW AVG 8 installer, which has an UNINSTALL option in it.

I then rebooted and installed using the same AVG8 executable.

    Try that.

If you need more help the AVG Free help forum is quite good. You can read more on this issue at http://freeforum.avg.com/read.php?13,140827,140996#msg-140996
