Telephone Socket for Sky Plus

On the fourth promis from Sky two guys came round yesterday to fit two sky plus boxes. They couldn't fit them as they said the boxes must be connected to a phone line and the phone point is too far away.
Rather than get someone in to fit another point can anyone tell me if the following is possible.
I have an extension point in my bedroom which is directly above where I require one downstairs. Is there any way I can obtain some external type of telephone cable that I could plug into this point and run down the outside of the house and into the front room, in order that I could in effect create another point next to the sky box.

just get a phone extension cable, plug it into the one upstairs and throw it down the stairs. Tell the Sky blokes to plug it into that. When they've gone unplug it and then look into the best way to get the cable run downstairs.0

Yes there is absolutely no reason why you can't do that. Running the cable outside will make it a bit tidier and there should be no problems at all.0 -
When i had sky fitted, the fitter did the extension from the front of the house to round the back, that’s what you pay the instillation fee for. This was for sky digital not sky plus.about:blank0
