Larger utility room?

We are re-designing our kitchen and utility room. At present the utility room is small, with a small sink and the dryer stacked on top of the washing machine. There is the opportunity to increase the size by incorporating a kitchen larder cupboard into the utility room. This would mean that there would be room for a drying rack in the utility room. The job would entail bricking up one doorway (into the existing larder cupboard) and then removing a section of wall, roughly door width.
While it would be very nice to have room for a drying rack in the utility room my husband questions whether it is worth the expense?

It's worth the expense if it's what you want. I don't imagine that it will add any value to your house, but if it gives you the space that you want then go for it.

Is the wall that would be removed a supporting wall? If it is then you'll need an RSJ/lintel put in and it sounds alot of hassle to me for not much benefit. Even with knocking through to the larder space your utility room will probably still be quite small and condensation from drying clothes could become an issue. If your kitchen is small and you can't fit many units in then having a larder is very useful storage space.

Are there any alternative ways that you could more fully knock through kitchen into utility room to create one room with a bigger more workable space for you?
