Do I need a plasterer or an electrician?

Or both? I want to have an LCD fitted to my wall. As you have probably already guessed I know nothing about DIY!
I need it fitting to the wall, the wires hidden behind the wall all the way to the plug socket and the wire will need extending to do this. So I am confused who to ring to fit it?
Any help appreciated

Can you not buy longer leads, this will cut out the electrian, but you will probably need a plasterer to make good the walls after if your not confident enough to do it yourself.0

Thanks Jason_s but I can't even put the bracket up as the walls are so hollow I wouldn't know where to start so I need someone who can do the whole job and make it perfect too
Thanks0 -
you will need an electrician to extend the electric to where you need it on the wall, plus you will need a longer lead for your aerial, or sky/cable tv that can be embedded in the wall too
a plasterer to make good the wall the electrician has ripped apart
and a handyman to hang the tv. however, he may need to do some work to the wall first before its plastered, as unless the studs are where you want to hang the tv, then the wall alone, wont take the weight of the tv
overall its much cheaper and easier, to go for a tv unit that has a backboard, that you can hide all the leads behind, and is designed to take the weight of a tv

Thanks flea... So I need 3 people?! Joy! And what is a tv unit with a backboard? Sorry I'm useless.0

tv unit with backboard: various places starting to sell the; basically anything from a low unit to a 'bookcase' which has space down the back for all the cabling -some nice ones in IKEA for examplemay you live in interesting times0

Heres a sample that I found that is quite reasonable that we are gonna get soon: http://www.marshallward.co.uk/rf/mar/navigation/product.do?categoryId=7601841&productPos=12&catno=TA9361Y&groupId=496456497&productId=4078923810

Thanks, the back board is not really an option. I already have the tv and its for my bedroom and it really does need/ I want it to go on the wall. I need a handy man who is qualified in everything by the sounds of it!0

We have our 42" plasma fitted on the chimney breast like this.
LCDs even easier, its lighter.
You need an LCD bracket, ebay is good.
You then fix that to the wall, if its a plasterboard wall it will have studs of wood that the board is fixed to, find these.
You then need to & this is the best bit, we had to channel out the wall because ours is solid, you might be lucky & be able to put a hole behind the bracket & feed the TV wire inside the plasterboard wall to a discrete spot near the plug socket.
You will prob need to lengthen the wire. Buy some three core flex the same thickness, some electrical tape & some little plastic junction boxes. You then join the colour to the same colour on the extra piece of wire using the junction box.
You might have to fill after (especially if you have to chop a little with the studs to get the wire in & down & out again), easy:D0 -

You want to go to all that trouble for a bedroom?
I thought it was for a living room.
We have ours wall mounted in our bedroom, but above a tall set of drawers. You see a foot or so of wire.
Have you thought of trunking a small section & placing a chest of drawers (useful for sky, DVD, PS3, etc;) ) beneath to disapear the wire away to.0 -

Thanks MrsE... It is going above a chest of drawers, although they re double wide so not as high as 'normal' chest of drawers if that makes sense. I wouldn't like the wire showing and don't want to use trunking... Far too much of a perfectionist hence giving myself a headache over who I need to call to sort this for me
Thanks again0
