Yes I can confirm that the one I purchased from Aldi (Like the one mentioned that Lidl previously sold), can be programmed with both economy 7 and standard tariffs. The time each tariff starts is also programmed in. But also like others have said, this is used only to measure the consumption of individual appliances and not the total consumption of all circuits in the house.

When I exchanged mine today, they only had a few left, so most will probably be gone by the end of the week. If anyone does get one, I'd still be interested to know what the voltage is reading.

When the voltage gradually increased to 280v, was there a load through the meter or was it just plugged into the mains on its own?

Have you checked your meter for a period on the amps and watts scale against a known electrical load like a 100W light bulb.

Do those readings rise as the voltage appears to
  • Hi, I first noticed the voltage increasing when it had a load of about 110W (Fridge/Freezer) going through it. I think it went up to about 260V after 2 or 3 hours. It went up to 280V left overnight with no load connected.

I haven't checked the amps and watts over a longer period. I will do that tomorrow with a light bulb and post back.
    Thanks.

Well of course with a fridge/freezer connected, there will be no load for periods of up to several hours as the compressor will not be running for much of the time.

IIRC you can only set one tariff into them.

Yes one tariff - but that can be a single rate or dual rate (such as E7) tariff :)

What they don't allow for is 2 tier pricing - not a problem for some of us :)
