Washing Powder

Hi,
I have just been to the supermarket (i dont usualy shop) and i couldn't believe the price of washing powder it is nearly £3 for a small pack and there is 5 kids in our house so we use a lot of powder. Anybody know of any offers or ways of cutting down without comprimising the washing.

Check the Old Style Board. There are loads of tips on there from using half powder half washing soda, white vinegar as fabric conditioner (works great for me) and even how to make your own for pennies.

    Hope this helps.
    Always another chapter

  • Morrisons advertising big boxes of Daz (I think it was Daz) usually about £10 on offer at about £5....sure this was on radio this morning :)
  • I might toodle off to see if its still on offer in a bit :)

  • I also use half the washing powder, half soda crystals. It works great, and makes the washing powder lasts twice as long. I actually think that this also makes my clothes brighter, too.
Bearing in mind that I use Ecover (ecological) washing powder, which is great, but more expensive, this half-half method really saves me some £££.
Soda crystals are about 48 pence for a bag (500 grams, I think) in Sainsbury's, they are really great stuff.
I also occassionally add a tablespoon or so to my mopping water with some dishwashing liquid. It really removes all traces of grease from my marmoleum floor and makes it squeaky clean.
  • Hi I heard that if you buy a cheap washing powder ie supermarket own and a brand one, use half of each for each wash and you get the best of both worlds! I wont do it cause i like my fairy too much :-)

Yes you put the soda crystals in the same compartment as the powder.
