Should i claim on my house insurance for my sofa?

Hi
Hoping someone can give me some advice.
I was considering putting in a claim on my house insurance for my sofa. A few years ago i had my sofa cleaned professionly and at the time there was a small amount of mildew on the back of the sofa which the cleaner could not get off. The sofa sits against an external wall and i can only assume the coldness causes the sofa to become damp hence the mildew. The mildew has now spread round to the sides of the sofa and the frame is starting to creak presumably with damp. Should i try to claim this on my insurance? And if i claim and they refuse does this have any impact on future quotes/policies? There is no evidence of damp on my wall - it is simply the cold which has caused this. One other thing - i have 2 matching sofas (9 years old) if they did accept the claim would they replace both sofas? I have new for old insurance.
Many thanks

I very much doubt that this sort of thing is covered.

    A. No it wouldnt be covered.

    b. If you enquire about it to the insurance company they in fact treat the matter as a claim. Yes, i know I was flabbergasted when i found this out.
I was talking to them at one point about a renewal and they said i had 2 claims last year. But all i had done was enquire about making a claim. It was then she told me that enquiry equals claim.

The situation you describe will definitely NOT be covered.

  • Hi
Many thanks for your replies. I shall definately not be claiming now! Or even phoning to enquire.
    Thanks again
