Just switched to Southern Electricity from BG - was this a good move?

I switched to southern electricity this time last month and in light of all the energy price increases i am now debating whether this was a good thing to do.

I just rang them and asked them how the swtiching was progressing and they confirmed i am now a souther electric customer and they will sort out the final billing with BG. I also ased for the unit price i am getting for gas and elec:

Electricity: 18.1p per uni increased rate, then 12.8p per unit thereafter
Gas: 4.4p per unit increaed rate and then 3.3p per unit thereafter

The representative told me that they can guarantee no price increases this year and when comparing the unit prices, they are cheaper than british Gas.

I'm new to this energy game (just recently moved out of my folks house) and with all this price fixing going on, i was wondering whether i have actually done myself any good.

Hi z....the service rating of Southern Electric is generally good and that of BG is bad.Good move.
I am with Ebico (still no price increase) and their admin is by Southern. Brilliant.
