bleeding radaiators

Hi I wonder if anyone can help me...I normally can bleed radiators okay but I am in a new house and haven't came across this problem before. Normally I use the key at the side of the radiator and turn it hear the hissing sound of trapped air escaping and job done. The radiators in this house have white plastic round screw type covers over the bit where the key goes (although doesn't cover them). There is a small pin hole at the side of white plastic screw type cover. I have tried the key on the the nut and it is not budging and I don't know if its something to do with this white screw type cover. I would appreciate any advice shrewdal

Have you tried turning the white plastic covers?
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
  • Newer radiators have these - the hole on the white plastic cover is where the water comes out once you have opened the bleed valve. The square for fitting the bleed valve key on mine has a slot where you can insert a screwdriver.

Think you just need a bit more force to open the bleed valve - the white plastic cover can be turned once the bleed valve is open if I remember correctly.
  • Hi Can I just say thankyou so much for taking the time to respond to my post. I think you are spot on about turning the screw with a screw driver. I was going to do that but wasn't too sure now I can do it with confidence and solve the problem of a cold radiator....shrewdalx
