AOL phone package; Quality OK? Any problems?

I am contemplating negotiating a better broadband/phone deal with AOL.

Currently my phone is fully BT, and I have a basic AOL broadband package.

I was thinking of doing the free calls all the time package bundled with broadband with AOL.

Is the quality good? Any disadvantages? ANy problems?

Thanks

Hi Moneybelle, I have been with AOL for many years and never had any problems; even the overseas call centre has been up to the job. 2 months ago I decided to opt for the AOL Talk Unlimited package(no monthly fee) and had no problems in changing over. All the work is done for you and you carry on using the phone as normal. Just pay the BT monthly rental and ring anytime day or night; no charges for the past 2 months for phonecalls; free unlimited calls to UK landlines (starting 01, 02 and 03 only)*. Just stay within the T&C`s and all will be fine.
Hope this has been of some help.

How much are you paying per month?

I hated AOLs bloated software that is a requirement to use their service, having that crap running slowed the computer down, is this still the same?

You dont need to use their software with broadband.

£17.99 for the bronze package I started off with.

It makes sense unless there is a quality issue.
    Thanks for your reply.

I've been with AOL for years, and re-signed up recently to get the broadband/phone and free laptop deal. It's not really worth it money-wise unless you do the free laptop deal, there's lots of other cheaper offers.
Also, the tech support are not very good, they are based in India, and just read from a script. If you ask them a question that's not on the script they get really bamboozled.
(like "why is my broadband down?").
Every time you ring the 0845 number it takes forever, they make you give your name address, postcode, phone number, then hand you around several different departments, and you have to go through the same rigmarole with every operator you speak to. You will be on the phone for at least half an hour most times if you have a problem, even a small one.

When I renewed my subscription they managed to open a new account up for me instead, and charged me twice. When I rang up India to complain they opened up yet another account for me. It took ages to get it all sorted out. Don't be fooled by the nice friendly people who work in the sales department, you won't be dealing with them if your broadband ever goes wrong.
Please don't do it, you'll regret it.

It seems that AOL do not want to compete on price and nearly rammed the MAC code down my throat!! (well not quite) :rotfl:

See more on another thread I posted on if interested.
