Hi. My eldest daughter bought a jar of mussels from the local co-op earlier tonight. When she was eating them she found part of a starfish  Ive never had to deal with anything like this before and as mussels arnt something we usually eat im not even sure if its common to find other sealife in the jar. do I take it back to the shop. complain to the company or just throw them away.
Anyone any help with what to do?
sorry if ive posted this in the wrong place.

I'd take it back to the shop and see what they say.
JulesThe ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0 -

My daughter ended up emailing the company and she received a cheque this morning for £10. Being a skint student shes pleased with this but im not sure i feel the same. Im just glad it was my endest daughter eating them as my 7 year old wouldnt have know any different with never eating them before, and she would have consumed it. Ive just sent a email off to trading standards for advice so I will see what they say before i throw the jar complete with mussels and starfish away.
Thanks.0 -
For future reference.... it's quite common to find tiny soft shelled crabs inside fresh mussels. You can only see them after they've been cooked so best to check inside each shell before serving to children. Another one is small pearls, only you only find these when you've bitten down on one

I still like mussels though lol
Just run, run and keep on running!0 -

I think we need to get real here - A piece of starfish in a jar of seafood is not exactly a foriegn body - I once found a caterpillar inside a tin of tomatoes, whilst it wasn't pleasant it was hardly worth making a big issue about. I wrote to the compaqny and they sent me several tins of their products - including puree - they obviously had a sense of humour!0 -
Whilst a starfish is not a commonly eaten sea creature, I don't think it is poisonous so if anybody had eaten it, no adverse effect would have been experienced.
I am happy to stand corrected, though.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0
