Potential problem with extension

Hi,

The house I'm looking at is currently vacant and next door are constructing a whopping great big extension.

Speaking to my father about it he says that there may potentially be a problem with this as next door have knocked down the boundary wall and built the extension right up to it - i.e. the boundary is now the wall of the extension. Also the footings for the extension lie on "my" side of the boundary. The neighbour has got planning permission apparently.

I'm not sure whether this is OT or not but I'd like to know others opinions on how much of a problem this is. Do you think it could cause problems when it comes to survey or even when I try to sell in future?

    Run.

    Not OT. Don't buy a house that's having it's boundaries interfered with. Unless you get it for peanuts AND you don't mind the neighbours taking the proverbial.

    Notice showed have been served on the owner under the Third Party Wall Act. Check all relevant paperwork and check surveyors reports if you are really interested.

    But be warned - if a neighbour dispute ensues over the bounday they can get very messy!

    Thanks for getting back guys.

    I don't really mind the neighbor building up to the boundary as I was actually planning on putting my own extension in - building from his wall. I spoke to the neighbour and he said he has no problem with building from his extension.

    What I don't want to do though is set my self up for any potential legal problems - either with the survey or when selling the house.

    I wanted to get someone elses opinion on this as I have no experience in this area!
