British Gas comparisons are wrong?
Options
Just been on the comparison sites such as moneysupermarket and the energyline and done a comparison.
26000kwh for gas and 3000kwh for electricity.
All of them listed British Gas as the cheapest. I found this strange and so went to their website and did my own check.
All other companies such as N-power which I thought was the cheapest calculated the tiers for annual usage. i.e. after 670kwh per annum the rate changes i.e. from 20p down to 7.7p.
However British Gas charge it per quarter. so in reality it is 670kwh x 4 before you start using the cheaper tier.
By my calculations this makes British Gas the most expensive, and N-power coupled with its £100 cash back the cheapest.
Is this a correct assumption? Therefore comparison sites are not taking into account how British Gas calculate their tiering system and giving incorrect advice.

Are you sure you're not confusing electricity and gas tiers? Last time I checked Npower had 4572 kWh per year* charged at tier 1 for gas! And 500 (BG) vs 728 (Np) for electricity.
You are right, though, that you have to check carefully the tier 1 charges as they do vary significantly.
*if you're lucky. Let's not start another thread about THAT subject.0 -
BG are 2,680kWh a year on Tier 1(670 a quarter) for gas and 500kWh(125 a quarter) for electricity.
BG click 5 - their internet account - is the cheapest tariff around at the moment. However that is because BG didn't increase that tariff in the last round and a hefty increase is expected soon.0 -
Oh, but don't forget that British Gas have only raised their standard prices - their Click 5 is due an imminent increase.0
